Offices and training facilities at the BIMM Music University in Brighton were plagued with failing fluorescent lighting in their Bartholomuse Suite. The existing ceiling system used a non-standard 30 x 150cm suspended tile layout, which didn’t match the 60 x 60cm dimensions required for modern lighting systems.
Replacing the entire ceiling with a new 60 x 60cm grid would have added an extra £10,000 to the project cost – a significant expense BIMM couldn’t afford.
Fortunately, LEDlight4you engineer Paul Young had an innovative solution. He designed a lighting system using the latest surface mount LED panels that could be fitted directly to the existing ceiling. Bespoke ceiling tiles were custom-cut to seamlessly blend the new lights into the current setup.
This ingenious approach saved BIMM £10,000, allowing them to spend the money on other important improvements instead.
The new LED lighting has transformed the space, providing brighter, more even illumination without the headache-inducing issues of the old fluorescent system. With a 4000K color temperature and low-glare lenses, the lighting is also kinder on the eyes.
The end result is a modern, clean-looking office environment with an attractive, cohesive ceiling design – all achieved while staying within BIMM’s tight budget.
“The new lighting has made a huge difference,” said BIMM Building & Technical assistant, Rebecca Grinyer. “It’s brighter, more energy-efficient, and the whole space feels fresher and more inviting. We’re delighted with the outcome and the money saved.”
