Energy Saving Retail & Commercial Lighting
The pressure on retailing in recent years with increased competition form “on line” retailing means display and presentation of the service or products has to be excellent.
Predominantly many retail premises use Halogen, Metal Halide or Fluorescent lighting.
Because retailing is often a seven day a week operation energy usage is high and often 70% of the overall usage.
We can drastically reduce your energy bills with cost effective commercial LED lighting solutions. Call us today for advice or to book your free lighting survey on 03333 446084.

Retail Lighting
LED Supermarket Lighting
Convenience stores and Supermarkets are often very long hours and require good light levels often 500 LUX. This means if you operate with Fluorescent or Metal Halide then regular maintenance changing tubes and bulbs is a regular occurrence and additional expense.
Changing over to LED will have many benefits, better light spread, uniform colour and maintenance free. As the caractoristics of LED lighting are different to your existing lighting a redesign is essential.
We recommend our survey design service carried out by a professional lighting engineer.

Commercial LED Lighting for Showrooms
Showrooms such as in the furniture and carpet business again have often 6-7 day opening times and large areas to light. Again mainly Fluorescent or Halogen regular replacement of tubes and bulbs means an addition overhead to maintain the customer experience.

Colour Matching Your Lighting
Added to this is colour matching, its important that the light temperature or colour which is measured in Kelvins should be 4000 – 5000k, this is natural white more in keeping with day light.
Often Fluorescent tubes especially as the deplete will be 2700k or yellow tinted light. For colour matching of materials, carpets and or tiles is impossible with a yellow tinted light. Again often LED lighting is fitted without any thought about colour, 6000k for example is fine for a workshop or office but too blue for colour matching where a natural light 4000 – 5000k is required. Our Epistar LED Panels and T5 Twin LED Battens can be supplied in 5000k which is perfect for colour matching and again will reduce energy usage by 70% with no maintenance ever.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is high-quality lighting so important in retail spaces?
In retail, lighting plays a major role in how products are perceived, how customers feel, and ultimately how well a store performs. Good lighting enhances displays, improves colour accuracy, and creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages browsing and purchasing.
Inconsistent or poor lighting can make products appear dull or miscoloured, especially in clothing, furniture, or cosmetics retail. LED lighting provides clean, consistent light with excellent colour rendering – essential for customer experience and product presentation.
What are the key benefits of switching to LED lighting in retail?
Retail businesses typically operate long hours – often 7 days a week – which means lighting is one of the biggest contributors to energy usage. Switching to LED can cut lighting energy costs by 60–80%, depending on the existing system.
LEDs also last much longer than traditional halogen, metal halide or fluorescent lights, reducing maintenance costs and eliminating disruptions caused by failed fittings. LEDlights4you designs systems to provide consistent, flicker-free light for years with minimal upkeep.
How can lighting affect how products appear on display?
Lighting influences how shoppers see colour, texture, and detail. LEDs with a high Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of 80+ or higher allow customers to view products in their true colours – critical for clothing, homewares, and beauty items.
Colour temperature is also important. Natural white light (4000–5000K) – for example – is ideal for most retail environments, while warmer or cooler tones can be used strategically for specific product zones. LEDlights4you designs systems that match lighting to the store’s layout and branding.
Why are our current LED lights turning yellow or dim after a short time?
Many retailers install low-cost LED lighting that isn’t built for commercial use. These often use inferior materials, resulting in fast degradation, colour shift, and early failure – sometimes in less than 2 years.
LEDlights4you supplies ETL-compliant, TUV-certified LED fittings with a lifespan of 50,000 to 100,000 hours. Our lights are designed for high-usage settings and carry proper warranties, offering a much better return on investment than budget alternatives.
Can LED lighting improve our store layout and customer flow?
Yes. With proper lighting design, you can create focal points, guide customers through specific pathways, and highlight high-margin products. LEDlights4you works with retail clients to plan strategic lighting zones, optimise ceiling light placement, and reduce shadows or dead spots.
The result is a more welcoming and efficient store layout that encourages exploration and increases dwell time, often boosting sales as a result.
Is it possible to match lighting colour temperature for accurate product presentation?
Absolutely. Colour temperature is measured in Kelvins (K) and is key to visual consistency in retail. For example, a 5000K light mimics daylight and is ideal for colour matching in stores selling fabrics, carpets, or paints.
Fluorescent tubes often fade to 2700K over time, giving a yellow tint that distorts colour. LEDlights4you provides 4000–5000K LED lighting as standard, with excellent colour rendering and no fading, ensuring products look true to life.
Can LED lighting systems include emergency lighting and smart controls?
Yes. LEDlights4you supplies complete commercial lighting systems, including emergency fittings that meet BS 5266 standards. These include maintained and non-maintained units with battery backup for compliance and safety.
We also offer smart controls such as microwave sensors, which automatically switch lights on when someone enters a zone and off when unoccupied. Daylight harvesting can also be used in areas with skylights or windows to reduce energy use.
Will installation affect trading hours or disrupt customers?
LEDlights4you installation teams are experienced in working in active retail spaces. We can plan around your busiest hours and complete work outside of opening times if required. If daytime installation is necessary, work is carried out in phases, and areas are safely isolated with portable barriers.
All our installers are certified and work to NICEIC standards, ensuring safety and minimal disruption. Clear communication is provided throughout to coordinate with store staff.
