NHS Trust Hospitals

NHS hospital lighting is often on 24 hours a day, particularly in A&E, corridors and wards. For this reason, it is important that LED lighting installed within NHS trust hospitals has a low running cost, long life expectancy and is installed in an efficient and non-intrusive manner.

In recent years, many NHS trust hospitals have begun to make the switch away from LED panels that are not ETL (Energy Technology List) compliant, these tend to fail in less than 2 years. Fortunately, LED lighting that is ETL compliant can be sourced at a similar price, offer 40% better energy savings, last 5 times longer and allow businesses to apply for Enhanced Capital Allowance.

There are a number of other benefits that come with choosing high quality ETL compliant LED lighting including:

  • Flicker free, not only is this more comfortable on the eyes, but will also not impact patients who may be suffering from conditions such as epilepsy.
  • Anti-glare lenses, creating a more comfortable environment for patients and staff.
  • LED lights do not create heat, meaning the need for air conditioning can be reduced, patients will be more comfortable and no dark heat patches will be created on ceilings.

Medical Centres / Doctor’s Surgeries

Medical centres and doctor’s surgeries are the first to feel budget cuts, and conditions have suffered as a result. With longer waiting times and less availability, it is important that conditions are as good as possible to keep satisfaction rates as high as possible.

Like NHS trust hospitals, medical centres and doctor’s surgeries are often open for long hours and so energy bills can sky rocket. In addition to the savings made from the switch to super-efficient LED lighting, further savings can be made through occupancy control settings.

Dental Practices

Dental Practices whether private or NHS registered are often open for long hours and thus energy usage is a large consideration. Additionally, the impacts on the aesthetics of the building should be considered; with brighter lighting making patients more alert and making the building seem more welcoming.

Another important aspect of lighting within dental practices is the LUX level. In order to see the patients, mouth property, the dentist will require a LUX of between 500 and 750. With traditional lighting, this would not be possible without blinding the patients however, with modern LED panel lights, light of the right intensity is dissipated across the entire room.
